Optional Activities

These activities take place on a Saturday or a Sunday. They perfectly complement a stay in the province of Quebec. Depending on the program, they may include an outing to nature, a visit to a historic site or a discovery of a new city (Québec or Ottawa).

Moreover, participants can enjoy privileged access to the UQAM Sports Center during their stay in Montreal.

WEEKEND OUTINGS

«Espace pour la vie» Excursion: Botanical Garden and Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium

Explore the beauty of the Botanical Garden or discover the Milky Way at the Planetarium!

This excursion gives access to a variety of places featuring countless natural elements.

Recognized as one of the most important in the world, the Botanical Garden is a living museum that brings together plants from all over the world. A colorful program of events, exhibitions, and activities is in effect all year long.

The Planetarium offers an innovative and unique astronomical experience that combines science and emotions. Two theaters plunge visitors into a fascinating virtual journey beyond the stars!

Thanks to a powerful boat to navigate the St-Lawrence River, you will enjoy the Montreal panorama at high speed! Montreal as you have never seen it!

Take the opportunity to discover the historical and geographical emblems of the city by navigating from the Jacques-Cartier Bridge to the new Champlain Bridge, passing by Sainte-Hélène and Notre-Dame islands!


On the descent of the boat, participants can add, at their own expense, a crossing of the Old Port of Montreal on a zip line. Information on the spot!

Parc national des Îles-de-Boucherville

A few kilometers from Montréal, right in the middle of the St. Lawrence, 5 little islands form Parc national des Îles-de-Boucherville. This park offers green spaces, channels teeming with life and waterside trails. Walkers, cyclists, and canoers come here for a breath of fresh air and a break from city noise and, with a little luck, deer, beaver, and a wide variety of birds are to be seen.

During this visit, enjoy the expertise of a natural park warden and then enjoy nature at your own pace, renting a bike, a canoe, a sea kayak, a paddle surfboard, a canoe Rabaska or just enjoy the sand volleyball courts.

This excursion includes transportation, entrance to the Park, and an animated activity. Boat rentals or bike rentals are at participants’ expense. A snack bar is also available on-site. However, we recommend bringing your lunch and beverages.

Ottawa, Canada’s capital, is located in Ontario, not far from the Quebec border.


You'll see iconic landmarks, including Parliament and surrounding areas, the Rideau Canal and the historic ByWard Market. In addition to these discoveries, you are invited to visit the Canadian Museum of History, an architectural gem, on the edge of the Ottawa River. See, among other things, the largest collection of indoor totem poles in the world. The tour will be offered in English to allow you to deepen your knowledge of the target language.

Maison Saint-Gabriel | authentic site of Montreal’s rural past

The Maison Saint-Gabriel, a museum and historic site, is the oldest architectural witness of rural history in Montreal. It preserves the memory of Marguerite Bourgeoys, first teacher of Ville-Marie, and the passage of « Les Filles du Roy ».

Today, Maison Saint-Gabriel evokes an authentic site of Montreal’s rural past.


By participating in the visit of Maison Saint-Gabriel and its gardens inspired by the 17th century, you will be immersed in the world of the first settlers and their lifestyle: food, hygiene, travel, and trades with the natives.


At the end of the visit, you are invited to share a country meal inspired by New France in the refectory.

The gourmet tour of Old Quebec is a 3-hour walk that offers 6 tasting stops.

Do you want to keep fit throughout your stay in Montreal? All you need to do is select the UQAM Sports Center membership on the registration form while enrolling in a language program!

To all participants of the various summer programs offered by UQAM's Non-Credit Language Courses, the UQAM Sports Center offers access to its facilities, namely:

  • a swimming pool
  • a multipurpose gymnasium
  • a well-equipped weight room
  • a climbing wall, and more

 

LUNCH HOUR

The UQAM campus is located in the heart of the Quartier latin in downtown Montréal, near the Quartier des Spectacles. This area is full of restaurants and cafes-bistros offering dishes with flavors of the world.

Students in residence halls may, because of their proximity to teaching classes, prepare their lunches.

 

FREE TIME

A recreational program is provided to participants at the beginning of each summer intensive session. This program is very handy for the following entertainments:
